Helen Hochhalter

Helen arrived at Carriage Manor in the summer of 1998. She quickly met Harv Hochhalter and they married the next spring. Life at Carriage Manor gave Harv and Helen both time to experience many things. They volunteered for everything, met wonderful people, overcame challenges and just thanked God for every wonderful day. Helen lives at Carriage Manor full time and says “you just can’t beat the sunny weather and our white fluffy clouds”.

MY INVITATION

Getting ready to file my taxes doesn’t seem as interesting as it used to. I live alone and by the amount of paperwork, you would think I owned a big company!

Picking up the mail today I noticed an envelope from a company inviting me to dinner, free of course, just to listen to their advice on overcoming paper collections. Now that interested me, When I got home, I read the invite and made my reservation. I was more excited as the day arrived.

Seven pm I was seated in my chair chatting to people around me. Dinner was very good, now time for business. On the screen was a device for scanning receipts and filing them under appropriate categories, that caught my attention. Monthly you could print out a spreadsheet; by year end all of them could be presented to your CPA and my work would be done.

Several other services were introduced, hire a secretary for the month available for the amount of time you would need. Since I am paid once a month, I felt two days the second week of the month would be practical, increasing if necessary.

I ordered the scanning machine, the company set it up and a quick lesson on its use.  On the second Monday of the month Loretta came and we discussed what I would need her for, she suggested things and I added my thoughts. She took over all mail sorting, helped get rid of so much junk mail, then proceeded to do her work.

Loretta’s first day took 5 hours and a second day was not necessary so already I saved a day of work. Considering she would be there less than 5 hours one day a month I was overjoyed. I take care of all birthday cards and Christmas cards! Loretta prints my labels!

This is my wisest decision to free up my time. I am forever grateful for the invitation for the dinner! Well worth my time and investment.

COWBOY POETRY

As I ride the open range,

I sing, I whistle and hum a tune.

My horse is at peace

And so am I. We don't like change.

Darkness is setting in

Time to set up camp and settle down

A big tree works for a tent

Awww, this beats the hustle of town.

The sun is coming up and light begins to shine,

Beautiful, I say, this is mine.

God is good to watch over us where we are,

At a distance I see the very last star.

Off to the North I travel

Thankful for the rest and a clear mind.

Ole Ned and I three days alone,

Now we turn to head home.

Back to the Studio where I get paid

Singing my “who done me wrong songs”

“Rolling down the river”

Or “My Cheating Wife”

Ole Ned and I make a great couple

He likes hay and to wander

I like coffee and campfire

And never a word to raise my dander
